At PodCamp Pittsburg last weekend some random chit-chat led to the creation of a new term: "bacn".
That then lead to this discussion on the subject (captured by iJustine on her "Truman Show-style" live feed):
In the short time since, these folks have made a game out of getting this new word into the conversational stream via blogs, Twitter, and an all out link-fest - so much so that credible news sites are actually reporting on it and the volume of activity in the blogosphere is undeniable:
Technorati tag: bacn
del.icio.us tag: bacn
Do we really need this new word? Nope.
But…
As we experiment with "harnessing" the power of social media, remembering this kind of example can help you keep from getting too theoretical about what social media IS in the first place.
(A nod to Chris Brogan’s Twitter feed - helped make me aware of the bacn phenomenon)
