BlogOrlando was a huge hit with four tracks of great presentations and lively, passionate discussion. As one might expect with a social media event, it was also, well - social. Got to meet some long distance Facebook and Twitter friends face-to-face, and it was especially rewarding to start connecting with efforts to bring the Orlando community together.
The mastermind behind this event is Josh Hallett, who has proven to be a master of the "unconference" format. Unlike the barcamp format which "self-organizes" on the day of the event, Josh explained that if you want to bring in session leaders from long distances (on their own dime), you have to do more than just say "show up and we’ll decide what to talk about when you get here". Josh achieved a remarkable blend of predetermined structure with a comfortable environment for spontaneous dicussion.
